WhatsApp tests a new feature that lets you add contacts via QR codes

The latest beta version of WhatsApp allows you to add contacts by scanning their QR codes, WABetaInfo reports.

The feature, available in the beta version on iOS and Android, is found in the app settings menu, where there are options for displaying your code, as well as for checking other people.

The QR code can also be revoked if it is shared with someone you do not want to have your number.

It's a minor feature, but adding WhatsApp contacts can be boring. Currently, the service depends on you to add a new contact to your phone's address book, which creates an annoying extra step when you just want to be able to send a message to someone in WhatsApp itself.

QR codes are a more convenient way to add someone if you are with them personally, although it will not make the process much easier if you do it online.

Although the functionality is currently available in beta, we don't know when we might see it coming to the main application.

If you want to join the beta version on Android, you could sign up with this link and check if you can find the QR code option in the settings, but the beta version of iOS would be closed.
