But, like all technology, there are times when your Chromecast may need a reset. Maybe the device is showing signs of failure or you are considering an upgrade and want to wipe your data from your Chromecast before making a swap. 

Whatever the reason, we've put together this guide to walk you through the process of resetting every Chromecast product.

Reset Chromecast with Google TV


We see the latest model of Chromecast is the first to offer an interface on the screen. Google TV analyzes all of your subscription services (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video) to create a quick-access landing page with recommended movies and shows based on your interests. 

It is the first Chromecast product that does not exclusively use streaming from a mobile device and also the first to have a remote control.

Reset from Chromecast device


Every Chromecast product has a physical reset button located near the device's power outlet. To start the reset process, press and hold the reset button. Your Chromecast will start flashing yellow. Press and hold the button until the LED turns solid white. This indicates that the factory reset was successful.


Using the Chromecast voice remote


You can also reset Chromecast using Google TV using the supplied remote. To get started, make sure your TV is tuned to the input your Chromecast is connected to. On the Google TV home page, go to the top right of the page, select your profile avatar, and then select Settings. Then select System> About, then Factory reset.

From the Chromecast device


With the Chromecast physically running, press and hold the reset button on the back of the device. Your Chromecast will start blinking orange. Once the light turns solid white, the factory reset will begin.


Using the Google Home app


In this paragraph, we will see how to reset using Android and iOS devices. Let's start with Android. Take any mobile device that has the Google Home app installed. Open the app, tap the Chromecast device you want to reset, then tap Settings. At the top left, click More (three dots), then Factory Reset.

For all iOS devices, open the Google Home app, tap Chromecast, tap Settings, then tap Remove device. Next, tap on Factory Reset and then tap Factory Reset again to confirm the restart.

Chromecast (1st generation )


In the beginning, the first generation of Chromecast introduced an application to the world of content streaming. There are two main ways to perform an O.G. factory reset. Chromecast.


From the Chromecast device

Once the Chromecast is connected to the TV, press and hold the reset button at the bottom of the device for about 25 seconds. The steady LED will start flashing red. Once the LED starts flashing white, release the button. The Chromecast will then start the reset process.


Using the Google Home app


Finally, note that for Android devices, open the Google Home app, then tap your Chromecast. Select More (three dots), then Settings, then tap Factory Reset. For iOS devices, open the Google Home app, tap your Chromecast, then tap Settings, then tap Remove device.
